Since moving to Greece in 2005, I’ve published sixteen books and one short story. Seven of the books are autobiographical, and take a not-too-serious look at the Greece I’ve come to know through both marrying a girl with a Greek mother, and later moving to live first on Rhodes, and more latterly here on Crete. The other nine are novels, the first two of which are connected through their characters, the next five are stand-alone stories. The seventh ‘The Crete Connection‘ and the eighth, ‘No Sign‘ are effectively one story in two parts. Book number fifteen, ‘The Lone Refugee,’ which is novel number nine, is once again a stand-alone story. The short story, ‘Outage,’ is a dystopian look at what would happen to the world if all electricity were to stop working for some inexplicable reason.

The latest non-fiction offering is called ‘Moving Islands,’ which is the torrid tale of how we managed to move house from Rhodes to Crete, and all that such a project involves. I still have one or two other projects rattling around in my head, and have already written several chapters of a possible new non-fiction piece with the working title of “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Greece, but Were too Afraid to Ask.” From that title alone, you can see that it’s intended to be very tongue-in-cheek, should it ever see the light of day.

Meanwhile, if you’d perhaps like to sample some of my published works, I’d encourage you to pop over to my web site, which you can do by clicking this link.

Regarding ‘The Crete Connection‘ here’s a sample of its reviews:

“…At first you think he has given too much away at the beginning but then there are subsequent twists and turns which leave you needing to read on and find out if you were right about the character. This is the first of John’s books I have read but am just about to download another one! I highly recommend.”

“…Fantastic storytelling as always by John. This was a fast paced back-and-forward tale that just kept springing surprises.”

The sequel to The Crete Connection is No Sign, and it was released in November 2020.

The novel before ‘The Crete Connection” was called ‘Panayiota‘, and is deeply personal to me, because its main character, although fictional, experienced the same horrors of Second World War Athens as did my own mother-in-law. In fact I made the primary character an exact contemporary of her, including many facts abut her family circumstances.

Once again, reviews of Panayiota have all been extremely complimentary…

“Buy it and read it and I promise you that you won’t regret it. Such a beautiful story with lovely characters and one I didn’t want to put down or to get to the end of. Well done John on another amazing read.”

“…What a fabulous story of such strong women. I have read quite a few novels based in Greece and the Greek Islands that have been set in WWII, this rates highly among them.”
